Newman Outdoor Field, Fargo, ND
Newman Outdoor Field has added a phenomenal element to the Fargo-Moorhead area activities schedule. R. L. Engebretson created this wonderfully intimate facility and have maintained a working relationship with our knowledge of the facility with the City of Fargo to assist in successfully completing three additional projects, in 2002, 2004 and 2006. In 2002, the Architectural Team from R. L. Engebretson researched systems to address deteriorating stadia joints in the facility’s precast superstructure. A special joint system now serves to maintain the facility’s shell weather tight. In 2005, R. L. Engebretson was commissioned to design a shading structure for the upper deck plaza at the ticket windows. An open Shading Structure was designed and constructed and as well, helps protect the ticket windows from inclement weather. Maintenance was addressed in 2006 to refinish all painted surfaces, such as handrails, guardrails, exposed steel superstructure, entry gates, etc. Deterioration to various interior surfaces in selected locations was also addressed. Significant research was done to identify multiple finish systems, using special systems with long-life wear ability at appropriate locations of high use and wear.

Matson Baseball Field, Mankato, MN
The “Field of Dreams” is becoming a reality! With the support of an active, involved and enthusiastic volunteer committee, their work since 2002 is becoming a reality with the Phase I construction, in the fall of 2007. This prepares the field for it use during the 2008 baseball season for the Moorhead High School Spuds baseball team, the VFW Golds baseball team and the Legion Blues baseball team. Phase I includes removal of the old dugouts and stadium structure, new concrete dugouts with rails, pads and nets for the protection of players and coaches; a short concrete backstop wall and a “wide - view” net system. An extensive storm water underground drainage system will now control water away from the field and dugouts to address a major deficiency of the old dugouts and field’s back areas. Phase II plans include the construction of a new stadium with approximately 500 seats, two new locker room spaces, toilets to address the facility’s expansion needs, some field storage and circulation to connect the locker spaces to the dugouts. Because a major goal of the project is to provide accessibility to the stadium, a new plaza, ramps and walks connect the new entry location for the field to the concourse level where accessible seating is available. Phases III plans for upper level seating for another 400 - 500 seats Phase IV plans are to construct a canopy roof structure over the seating areas. The goal of the “Field of Dreams” Committee is to complete the estimated $ 1.8 M project prior to the 2009 baseball season. This project is an example of the private “Field of Dreams” Committee moving forward in hand with the public owner of the field, the City of Moorhead.
